Left and Right

The book list on the left has been there for ages. I’m finally reading E.E. Cummings’ Poems and David Allen’s “Getting Things Done”. The latter is a very interesting work, really helpful to get yourself organized. E. E. Cummings’ poems are mindblowing, to say the least.

In between, I read “The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy” and I must say, I’m not impressed. The first book is fun and all, but after that, it’s very repetitive. Books 2,3 etc are severely limited, in my opinion. The comedy is still there, but it’s sort of the same jokes with different ingredients. Kinda like the Sequels to “The Matrix”, more of the same, but not exactly required. They don’t add anything substantial to the book, just prolong the story. Then again, that’s my opinion.

I’m a fan of Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. My personal favorite would be “Blood and Gold”. She portrays my romantic image of vampires as cultured, elegant, sophisticated mysterious beings. (Rather than the cliche blood-sucking bat, that is). Her vampires are also more human (or humane, Ramzi?), in the sense that the older they are, the less they want to kill, the more they wonder about the mysteries of life, death and un-death, and the more they admire humanity.

I just read “Queen of the Damned”, and although it’s just as good as the rest in the series, it has less of the mysticism of the other books and more ‘action’. The book is a very interesting read, loads of fun.

I also caught “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”. Before you judge me, I’m not into mainstream crap. However, a friend of mine, who’s taste in movies I hold in high esteem, said that I should watch it. True, the movie was no “Twelve Angry Men”, but it was loads of fun. A lot of sexual tension, double entendres and nonstop subtle comedy. Angie in undies helped as well.

what does an atheist (assuming they’re not the quiet type) scream when they cum?

Oh, Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles… Reading them gave me the best three months of my literary adolescence! I was so entranced that I would wait in bed to be bitten, and I was not kidding. It was all so real to me that I longed for them to exist and to become a vampire myself… They made humans seem so useless and disposable….
I’m over it now, but I still love the romanticism I felt at the time… Lestat was my God.
But is “Blood and Gold” a new installment? I’d never read that one.

And I think God would just give out a muffled “umph” when he came, and then it would rain men.
I’m desperately waiting for the showers…

And another thing, Mr.Hopeless-Romantic-Rarely-Funny, I really think you should read Alberto Moravia’s “Boredom” which is a literary gem I’m sure you would enjoy.
And after that, read Nabokov’s “Lolita” (hopefully, you haven’t seen the film(s)).

Akhhh, I miss a good book that makes you all fucked-up inside with masochist romanticism…

    Del, you stole my thunder!

Thermo, nice one… but too cerebral, I doubt I’d be cracking jokes during an orgasm ;)

Rasha, welcome to the fold. Lestat rocks… Blood and Gold is Marius’ story, Lestat is in it, naturally, but not as fully developed a character as in the rest of them…

I read Lolita some time ago, and never watched the movie after that, because I feel that there’s books that just can’t be made into films.

    Moravia… I’m on it.
