The Frowner

The Frowner

I had a long weekend in Berlin, hung out with the family, met a few friends… On my way back, I took the S-Bahn (subway) from Hamburg main station to Heimfeld (home). About halfway through an old guy I have amicably dubbed “the frowner” gets on. This guy is always frowning, and very often shares the same public transportation with me. I get on a bus he’s there, I get on a train, he’s there… it’s getting creepy, but I guess he just lives in the same region.

Anyway this guy is always frowning. Now don’t get me wrong, the people on buses et al. are not always cheerful and singing christmas carols, but this guy takes seriousness to the limit. If we have eye contact, I have to look away from his blue eyes in fear of being cursed. Anyway, it doesn’t bother me that much, but I always wonder what could make such a person so grumpy.

All sorts of theories went through my head, until one time, another old guy talked to him, and pointed out an empty seat on the bus, he barked something incoherent, and , although I didn’t think it physicall possible, frowned even harder!! Then it dawned on me, that guy was not happy about being old. That’s all. My good looks and nice physique really made him feel self-conscious…. man I’m sexy.
