I thought of posting again yesterday, but decided against it…I think I’ll stick to one message a day for the time being…
My cousin (the guy who put me up to this in the first place) thought that my blog’s description was a bit ambiguous… well, it was clear to me, but I thought I’d clear it up for the masses as well…..
the singles I mentioned are just a few, apparently simple, but inherrently very effective differences I noticed between my homeland and here…
So, suitabely, I hereby christen this post: “Who the hell pressed mute!!!”:
It’s bizarre, when you grow up with noise all around you, it kinda becomes part of the scenery…you no longer notice it to the extent that it seems non-existent!! Trust me, you’re wrong!
The first couple of days here were really nice…but something was missing. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but I could swear something was off, strange lighting?? different air?? I really couldn’t tell, but I felt tense inside…
then, maybe a week or so later, I was on the phone with my cousin in Italy when it dawned on me!!! In the background on her side of the phone, I could hear cars honking and people screaming and music playing and… it’s that mess that I miss!!!!! trust me, there’s nothing fun about a zillion cars tooting your ears to deafness! or people screaming at the top of their lungs..it’s just the fact that my ears are used to it, that a normal conversation is not normal unless I filter all the interruptions from it… all of you who’ve experienced a mediterranean country and some calm place like scandinavia or the north pole know exactly what I mean…
It’s so quiet here, honks are not recognized as an essential weapon of a driver’s arsenal… people keep their conversations to themselves!!! everyone is retired in their own corner doing their own thing but on mute…no music blasting from the car passing by, no screaming tv show host from the neighbors living room…. no friends screaming nonsense without a reason, man even the clubs are quiet ( relatively speaking
)!!!
I can honestly say, I don’t miss the noise…but I sometimes feel this is too much! don’t know if I’ll change…I just wonder if I really miss the noise, or if it’s just my way of missing home….
NAHHH… I miss the hustle, the bustle…I miss the goddamn NOISE!!!!
so, now you know….just thought I’d share that with y’all…
